CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design)

CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) is an all India examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT, Bombay), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India.

The examination tests the candidates for visual perception ability, drawing skills, design aptitude and communication skills.

CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to Post Graduate M.Des. programmes at the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay; IDDC, IIT Delhi; CPMD, IISc Bangalore; design Programme, IIT Kanpur.

CEED qualification in itself does not guarantee admission to the above mentioned programmes. In addition to CEED, candidates also have to fulfill other requirements such as tests and interviews of the respective institutions for admission.

Admissions to M Des programme
The following are the steps for admission to the Master of Design programme in Product Design, Visual Communication, Interaction Design and Animation:

Examination Date and Time:
Usually end January - beginning of f February, 9:30a.m. - 12:30p.m.

Structure of the Examination:
CEED examination will consist of two parts. First part would test your drawing skills, aesthetic sensibility, creativity, problem identification and your approach to visual and product design. The second part will be mainly objective type which will test your skills in visualization, creativity, design and general awareness, and comprehension.

Applying for admission to various programmes:
Qualifying in CEED does not guarantee admission in any way. You will have to again apply to respective IIT's, IISc for admission along with your CEED score .

The announcement for admission to the M.Des Programme will appear along with other Post graduate programmes of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and Delhi, IISc Bangalore and University of Roorkee sometime in February / March / April in all leading newspapers. Applicants will be called for interview in May - June to appear for a test followed by an interview. No fares or allowances are paid for this trip. Admissions are finalized within a week after the interviews.

Information on the programmes may be obtained from the websites of the respective institutes. Candidates are encouraged to visit respective IITs and IISc and meet the students and Faculty of the design centers to discuss the programme details.

Reservation for various categories will be taken care of as per Govt. of India rules at the time of admission.

Admissions to Ph D programme in Design
The following are the steps for admission to the Ph D programme in Design:

For admissions,
1.You'll need to have the requisite qualifications and

2.Pass the All India Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED), conducted in many parts of the country (only graduate students need to pass CEED and not post graduate students)

3.Apply for Ph D using Application Form and qualify through the IDC Admission Test and Interview


Eligibility for applying to the Master of Design programme:

Product Design at IDC

. Valid CEED Score
.  Bachelor's Degree/Diploma or equivalent Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Architecture, Design, Interior Design, Professional Diploma of NID, Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year program) with a minimum 60% marks or equivalent grades (55% in case of SC/ST).

Visual Communication, Animation and Interaction Design at IDC

. Valid CEED Score
. Bachelor's Degree/Diploma or equivalent Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Architecture, Design, Interior Design, Professional Diploma of NID, Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year program), BFA - Professional course in Applied Arts/Fine Arts, GD Arts (5 year professional course ) with minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grades (55% in case of SC/ST)
OR Masters Degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) and good potentials and aptitude for design.

. Candidates having 5-year GD Art Degree / Diploma after 10th standard need to have either completed 12th standard examination or have additional one year of working experience.

M.Des Programme for foreign Nationals:

. Must have a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grades (6.0/10.0 or 2.4/4.0) at Bachelor's Degree/Diploma or Professional courses / Diploma (Minimum 5-year duration) in engineering / Architecture / Design / Fine Arts

. Valid TOEFL score (for candidates from non-English speaking countries)

. Outstanding portfolio (which will be evaluated by Post Graduate Committee (PGC) of IDC, IIT Bombay

Eligibility for applying to the Ph D programme in Design:

Post Graduate Entry Students:
Full Time Students:
Students who have done postgraduate (M.Des) from IIT's & IISc or PGDPD from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and equivalent programs in design are eligible to apply.
OR
B.DES/B.Arch/BFA/MA/MSc/Under graduate Diploma in Design of NID or equivalent degree with exceptionally outstanding design related work with a valid CEED score. Candidate with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience without CEED scores can also be considered. However such candidates will not be awarded Teaching Assistantship/Research Assistantship.

Part Time Students:
In addition to the above qualifications the Part Time Students should have a minimum 2 Years experience in consultancy, Industry or academia.

Graduate Entry Students:
GDPD from NID or B.Des from IIT Guwahati or equivalent. Students should have valid CEED score.

Note: All Degree/Diploma/Professional courses must satisfy 10+2+4 pattern or more.
